ALSO: 

The Book Cellar, located on the lower level of the John Barton Payne Building on Courthouse Square (entrance in the back) has created a special display of books on African American culture and history--all genres, scores of topics. All books in this collection are on sale for $1 or less to celebrate Juneteenth. The Book Cellar is operated by Friends of the Fauquier Library and all proceeds go to fund programs of the Fauquier Library. This display will be available Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail (also on Courthouse Square) will be open with free admission on June 18 from 11am to 4pm. Come see the tragic exhibit on the enslaved man captured in Pennsylvania and brought back to the Fauquier County jail. See the exhibit on Madison's Barber Shop, the first business on Warrenton Main Street owned by a black man. (Note that this photo of Mr. Madison is in the Smithsonian African-American Museum too!) And many other local stories!
