On August 28, 1963, about a quarter-million people participated in the historic March on Washington gathering near the Lincoln Memorial in which Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered the exalted “I Have a Dream” speech.
While delivering remarks at the Minneapolis memorial service for George Floyd Thursday, Rev. Al Sharpton announced that on Aug. 28, 2020, “We’re going back to Washington.”
"We're going back this August 28 to restore and recommit that dream (of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) ... We need to go back to Washington and stand up, Black, Latino, Arab, Asian, and white, in the shadows of Lincoln and tell them this is the time to stop this," Sharpton said.

Q: Can we bring flags and banners?
A: Flags are allowed, but not on a pole. Posters and signs are allowed, but not with wooden sign posts. Instead, we encourage people to use cardboard sign posts. For those of you who want to express creativity, a Protest Sign Making Workshop will be conducted on Thursday, August 27th. The exact time and location will be announced soon!
Q: What should I wear?
A: Custom event t-shirts will be available. Purchase details will be announced soon. Please plan accordingly and dress for the weather. Especially if the temperatures are higher than normal, standing outside for hours at a time may impact you.
Q: Can I bring folding chairs so that we can take rest?
A: Folding chairs are not permitted. If there are specific medical needs that you cannot have met with regular accommodations please contact dcbureau@nationalactionnetwork.net
Q: Will there be a modified route for people with disabilities or limited mobility?
A: There will be a modified route for the march. We ask that people assess their own ability to march and make needed arrangements to participate.
Q: What if I get arrested?
A: Please note that we are working with local and federal law enforcement and do not intend to engage in any civil disobedience. We expect all marches to abide by all laws and any instruction of law enforcement. Finally, we are planning a peaceful demonstration and are training marshals in a deescalation tactics and ask that all marches remain peaceful.
